Well done to all players that competed in the Interclub Sevens over the weekend. We were lucky that the weather turned on for us both days of the event. The four Canterbury Rep Teams travelled down to Timaru on Sunday 29 November to play against North Otago, South Canterbury and Canterbury Country. South Island Secondary Schools Yr 9 & 10 Singles

Out of the 13 students, eleven Christchurch students travelled down to the West End Bowling Club in Timaru on Thursday 19 November to compete in the SISS Year 9 & 10 Singles. The students were from a range of schools across Christchurch, Papanui High, St Thomas College, St Bede’s College, and St Andrew’s College. The Christchurch students either had been participating in Wednesday Sport at the Centre Green / Morrison Ave BC or are members of a local bowling club. Congratulations to all students who competed. They all played some great bowls and their futures in bowls are looking bright.

On Tuesday 17 November, Bowls Canterbury sent two teams of seven to Kaikoura to compete against Bowls Marlborough. It was a great day of play by both teams but unfortunately Bowls Marlborough came away with then win.

Reduced Office and Shop Hours

Starting Monday 16th November the Bowls Canterbury Office and Shop opening hours will be Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 3.30pm until the end of the year. This is due to a combination of reasons; Katie is reducing her time in lieu hours, and Emily is out delivering bowls. A reminder that Lorraine’s role is not a full time position. Our Christmas close down dates will be as follows:Closed on Monday 22nd December 2020 and open again on Wednesday 6th January 2021

Green Change for Centre Singles

Due to the number of qualifiers in the Men’s Singles we have had to make a change to the greens for post section play tomorrow (Sunday 15th November). The Women will now be playing at Elmwood Park (Donald Place green), and the Men will be playing at Halswell and Papanui Cub. The draws for these are on our website. Success at Stoke Stake Womens Singles

Blackjack Tayla Bruce from Burnside took out the highly coveted Stoke Stake Women’s Singles on Sunday afternoon. Tayla played her Blackjack teammate, Jo Edwards in the final and won 21-17. Auckland’s Taylor Horn Wins Burnside U26 Singles

After 140 games of singles play, a worthy winner emerged from the strong field of talented young lawn bowlers on the Burnside Bowling Club’s greens last weekend. Taylor Horn, a 23 year old painter and decorator from Auckland‘s Mangere Club, played with flair and skill to win the Burnside Under 26 Singles Tournament from Papakura’s Adam Baillie. The 32 players provided great entertainment for spectators demonstrating skill and innovation in very competitive matches which resulted in many upsets.Each player contested seven games in section play with the top two in each of the four sections  progressing to a sought after place in Division 1 for the playoffs.
