On Tuesday 20th November two Canterbury Women’s team headed up to Kaikoura to take part in the Majorie Gundry event, which is a women’s representative event between Marlborough and Canterbury.  First held in 1968, this years event had a lot of meaning, being 50 years since the first time it was held. It was also the first time in three years that this event had been held – last played in 2015. The event was scheduled to be held in 2016, however two days before was the devastating Kaikoura earthquake. Town and Country Representative Results

On Sunday was the first of the representative fixtures for the 2018/19 season with the Town and Country event. Canterbury Players were chosen either the Country Team or the Town Team via their club affiliation. The Men’s event, was held at Bowls Hornby and in the Senior Grade the Town team was too dominant for the Country team, winning 9 games out of twelve. Bowls Canterbury is pleased to announce the two venues for Finals Weekend: Centre Finals Weekend – 26/27 January 2019 at Parklands Bowling Club Parklands have been working extremely hard since 2011 and have recently moved into their new clubhouse which forms a part of a new community sports environment for the wider Parklands area. National U23 Singles

We are happy to announce that Bowls Canterbury are hosting the National Under 23 Singles (previously Under 21 Kittyhawk Singles). The event will be endorsed by Bowls New Zealand and means a New Zealand title will be up for grabs! The event has been scheduled in our Playing Programme on Saturday 30th March to Sunday 31st March 2019. This date does clash with the Champion of Champions Under 8’s Singles. To ensure players are not disadvantaged and have to choose between these two events, we are rescheduling the CoC Under 8’s Singles to Sunday 7th April 2019.

New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowling Association National Championships – UPDATE The last week in November will bring a new and exciting event to Christchurch. The Burnside Bowling club will be host to  the New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowling Association National Championships. This will be the first time the event has been held in Christchurch. Your support of the event would be welcomed by these courageous participants who “don’t let what they can’t do stop them from doing what they can”. Over 60’s Singles Greens Needed

We are yet to find clubs to host the Over 60’s Singles competition on Thursday 1st November. For this competition we require two greens, and the host club(s) to provide markers. Please get in touch with with Katie ASAP at marketing@bowlscanterbury.co.nz or (03) 351 2050, if your club are able to host and provide markers. It is a possibility that this event could be cancelled if we do not find greens. Worthy Winner Bowls the Field at the Burnside Under 26 Singles Tournament

The Burnside under 26 Singles Tournament was played at the Burnside Bowling Club in variable conditions last weekend. Friday was cool and cloudy while Saturday’s wind was blustery and sharp but warmed the players late in the day. Sunday, finals’ day, began with a gentle breeze and cloudy skies which cleared towards midday making the afternoon pleasantly warm but unfortunately after all play was finished. This year however it did not rain! Green keeper, Glen Miller produced a true running surface on two immaculate greens that rewarded excellent shot making. The 32 singles players provided great entertainment for spectators demonstrating skill and panache while playing innovative shots in competitive and at times very memorable games. Centre Under 8’s Singles Entry Issues

We have had some issues with our online entry system, which has meant some entries have not been sent through to us. Please click here to see the entries we have for both the Men’s and Women’s Centre Under 8’s Singles. If you have entered this event but do not see your name on the list please contact Katie ASAP on 351 2050 or marketing@bowlscanterbury.co.nz Please note, due to this issue the draws for this event will not be completed until Monday/Tuesday 8/9 October. We will need to do this for all other events entered before today (Thursday 4th October). Please keep an eye out on our website as this will be done within the next week.

The 2018 Burnside Under 26 Singles Tournament will be held at the Burnside Bowling Club in Avonhead Road from Friday 5 October to Sunday 7 October. Thirty two players from all parts of New Zealand will gather on Burnside’s manicured greens in search of the coveted title. Representative of the cream of the country’s youth bowling talent and ranging in age from 15 to 25, the field of young women and young men compete against each other with no favours given or asked for.   Two former winners will be among the favourites – Burnside’s Tayla Bruce (2015) and Gore’s Sheldon Bagrie-Howley (2016).
