Lindley Neil Results

At the weekend the Bowls Canterbury Men's Development team traveled to Greymouth to compete for the Lindley Neil trophy - a bowls event again the Canterbury Men's Development team and the West Coast Men's Team.

The event was held over two days at the Karoro Bowling Club in Greymouth; with teams playing in Triples and Fours on Saturday, followed by Pairs on Sunday.

After the first day, the Canterbury men were narrowly ahead on wins, winning 3 out of the 4 triples games and one of the three Fours games; Meaning Canterbury Development had 4 wins and West Coast had 3. With six wins up for grabs on Sunday it was anyone's game going into the final day.

The West Coast team produced strong pair combinations; using this event to select their Senior Men's team to attend the National Intercentre; the Coaster's were out to prove themselves and that they did.

Going into the last end of the last pairs game; Canterbury Development had won two of the pairs event and had lost three - meaning the wins were tied (Canterbury 6 and West Coast 6). Whomever won the last pairs games would be the winning region. At the last end the Canterbury Development were down by 2 and unfortunately for them, the West Coast duo were able to produce an exception last bowl to move the jack giving them the win 21-18 and therefore winning the event overall. West Coast 7 wins to Canterbury Development's 6 wins.

Well done to all who competed, especially the victorious West Coast team, who played exceptionally.

Despite the loss, the Canterbury Development Coaching staff of Ross Fenton and Trevor Kennett are happy with the performance of their team against a very strong West Coast team and look forward to focusing their attention on putting a strong Development Team of 7 together to take on Nelson, Marlborough and a combined Buller/West Coast team in March.
