New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowling Association National Championships - UPDATE

The last week in November will bring a new and exciting event to Christchurch. The Burnside Bowling club will be host to  the New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowling Association National Championships. This will be the first time the event has been held in Christchurch. Your support of the event would be welcomed by these courageous participants who "don't let what they can't do stop them from doing what they can". The singles event will be played on Monday 26th and Tuesday 27th November.  The Wednesday 28th and Thursday 29th will find the pairs championships being played. Please come along and support the players and their directors as they strive to become the New Zealand champion for their division. You will find a great atmosphere of competition, skill and fun.

Two Burnside members who will be participating, Deane Robertson and Tom Boyd achieved great success at last years championship in Tauranga.  Deane won the B2 singles championship and Tom was a very close runner up in the B4 event. This was after playing bowls for only two months. Can they achieve similar success at this years event? Only time will tell. They have both prepared very hard throughout the winter months and the early part of the season.

If you know of anyone who is visually impaired and who would like to play in the event it is not too late. Please contact Kevin Smith who can provide advice about the criteria for participation. Kevin can be contacted by email on kevincsmith23@gmail.com or by mobile on 022 312 1632. In a coarse sense, if you cannot see fully up the green then you should be talking to us because you are probably eligible to take part in one of the four divisions of blind bowls.
