Sad passing of Darryl Hawker

Darryl Hawker (Halswell Bowling Club) passed away peacefully on Thursday 1st July 2020, surrounded by close family and friends.

Darryl was involved with the Bowls Canterbury Representative programme for several years. Darryl received his first position in the 2014/2015 season, and was appointed the Convenor /Selector for the Talent Development Men’s Team. From there, Darryl progressed to the Senior Men’s Team where he helped select, coach and manage the team.

The teams who Darryl was involved with all had great success, with the later teams winning two National Intercentre Titles (2016/2017 & 2018/2019)

Nominated for Coach of the Year in 2017/2018. 

Bowls Canterbury Prizegivings
Winner of the Coach of the Year trophy for the 2018/2019 season

Centre Titles

Not only was Darryl a experienced Coach/Selector/Manager, he was also a quality player on the greentoo. Darryl achieved 4 Centre Tiles:

  • 1996/97 – CoC Fours
  • 2008/09 & 2010/11 – Centre Men’s Fours
  • 2017/2018 – Centre Men’s Pairs
