HARCOURTS GRENADIER STEWART BUTTAR BURNSIDE PAIRS

Friday 15 to Sunday 17 January at the Burnside Bowling Club at 330 Avonhead Rd Christchurch.

The Burnside Bowling Club is once again hosting some of New Zealand’s finest bowling talent. Harcourts are once again the major sponsor if this prestigious $12,000 tournament which is without question one of New Zealand’s premier club events.

This year’s field includes several New Zealand title winners and New Zealand representatives. Some of the main contenders are Mike Kernaghan and Tony Grantham, Jo Edwards and Val Smith, previous winners Shaun Scott and Sean O’Neill, locals Kelvin Scott and Nathan Glasson. National Pairs winner Lance Pascoe is teaming up with Andrew Curtain, while Burnsides Tayla Bruce and New Zealand Gold Star holder Lance Tasker are always strong contenders. Young guns Aiden Takarau and Selina Smith and a strong Burnside combination of Richard Hocking and Barry Williams will be teams to watch.

Predicting a winner would be a very hard task with such a strong field.

Play begins at 8.20am on Friday with four games of 2 hours 15 minutes. Play continues on Saturday with an 8.30am start, then after one round the field will be divided into three Divisions. Play commences on Sunday at 8.30 with Division 2 and 3 finals starting at 11.10am and the Division One final commencing at 2.10.

The Burnside Club invites everyone to come along throughout the weekend to witness what is sure to be an outstanding three days of bowls – free of charge of course.

MASTERCLASS AT BURNSIDE WITH JO EDWRDS AND VAL SMITH

Twenty local bowlers have taken up the opportunity to be coached by two of New Zealand’s bowling super stars. On Thursday 14 January commencing at 10.30 these lucky people will have there skills fine tuned and will be able to hear first hand what it takes to get to the very top of the bowling world.

The two hour sessions kicks off at 10.30 am and spectators are more than welcome.
