The Burnside Bowling Club will once again host some of New Zealand’s finest bowling talent in this years event being held this weekend.

The prestigious $12,000 tournament which has John Phillips of Harcourts Grenadier as its major sponsor is without question one of New Zealand’s premier club events.

This year’s field includes several New Zealand title winners and New Zealand reps and also has a total of 17 previous winners in the field. Unfortunately, Bowls Australia were intending to send four top class teams but with our covid problems this couldn’t happen.

Some of the main contenders will be Mike Kernaghan and Tony Grantham, Jo Edwards and Val Smith, previous winners Shaun Scott and Sean O’Neil, locals Kelvin Scott and Nathan Glasson, Shannon McIlroy and Nick Buttar, Burnsides Tayla Bruce and NZ Gold Star holder Lance Tasker, young gun Richard Hocking along with last year’s winners Matt Gallop and Isaac Denny.

The field includes winners from the just completed 2022 Nationals. Womens Pairs Sandra Keith and Bev Morel , Mens Singles Kelvin Scott and Womens Singles Burnsides Tayla Bruce.

There are many other very strong pairs and predicting a winner would be a very hard task.

Play begins at 8.30am on Friday with 4 games of 2 hours to be played so it will be a very long day for all involved and then continues through until finals on Sunday afternoon.

The Burnside Club invites any interested spectators to come along throughout the event free of charge to witness what is sure to be an outstanding three days of bowls. A Vaccination pass is required.
