Regional Secondary Schools Champs 2022

Meg ParfittNews

The Bowls Canterbury Centre Green was host to the Canterbury Regional Secondary School Champs, featuring some of Canterbury’s best up-and-coming bowls talent. Jack Bonner (Cashmere High School, Barrington United) took out the top spot for the second year in a row. Second Place was Jayden Owens (Burnside High School, Burnside Bowling Club) who was also the top points scorer overall. Callum Lucas (St Thomas of Canterbury College) took out third place. In between some heavy showers, the weather held off enough for five rounds of singles, then playoffs for the top qualifiers from each section. Withdrawal from Intercentre

Meg ParfittNews

Today the Bowls Canterbury Board decided to withdraw our two teams from Bowls NZ Intercentre scheduled to start 17 March in Auckland. This decision was not taken lightly and was done conjunction with our coaches and selectors. We believe the risks are too great to send our players and the support staff to Auckland especially as the daily in positive test numbers increase and they are predicted to peak at the end of March. The health and safety of our players and support staff is paramount hence the decision.

The Bowls Canterbury Office and Shop are now closed for Christmas. We will return on the 10th January. Have a safe and happy holiday season!

Centre Pairs POSTPONED

Meg ParfittNews

Centre Pairs this weekend has unfortunately been POSTPONED again. After all this wild weather we have experienced, the flooded greens need time to properly drain and recover before Nationals in early January. Unfortunately, the weather forecast is bringing more rain in the lead up to the weekend, which is why the greenkeepers and match committee have made the decision early. A postponement date will be announced as soon as we have one arranged. Refunds will again be available to those who can’t make the new dates work. Thanks for your understanding!

Southern Quad Results

Meg ParfittNews

On Sunday our Canterbury Representative teams travelled to Geraldine and Temuka for the annual Southern Quadrangular. Instead of the Canterbury and Country teams competing, this year we had mixed teams from both areas. Town-based players played alongside their country counterparts in Red and Black teams. The competition against South Canterbury and North Otago was as competitive as ever and provided our players with the opportunity to show the selectors that they are worthy of going further. The downside of the day was the weather, and unfortunately only two of the three games were completed at both venues. The Women’s Black team won the senior section, and in Geraldine the Senior Men’s Red team picked up that trophy. The Development Men’s … Read More

Centre Pairs – Postponement Update

Meg ParfittNews

Thank you for your patience while we have worked out the postponement dates for the Centre Pairs, which was unfortunately rained off on Sunday. Section play will now be on the Saturday 18th of December. Post Section will now be on the Sunday 19th of December. To accommodate this, Centre Fours section play has been moved to a new date in January, which will be communicated separately to the Fours teams affected.  As the 18th December was originally going to be the post section date, we are confident that everyone who entered initially should be able to make this new date work. However, if your team is now unable to participate, we will be offering refunds.  If you would like to be withdrawn, please email Meg at marketing@bowlscanterbury.co.nz by 5pm Tuesday … Read More

Stolen Bowls

Meg ParfittNews

These bowls were stolen out of a car boot in New Brighton on Saturday. They are pretty distinctive and we’d love to get them back to their owner! If you see them for sale anywhere, please contact the police as a report has been filed.
