Lindley Neill Invitation Men’s Canterbury Team

Last weekend the Bowls Canterbury Lindley Neill Invitation Men’s Team played at the Dobson Club against a West Coast team. The team, coached by Wilson Bell and Ray Hunt, unfortunately, wasn’t able to bring the trophy back to Canterbury. All 6 games were even and they lost on points on the countback with a -11 differential to Canterbury and a +11 differential to west coast. The team was Dave Holland, Jacob Inch, Cory O’Connor, Greg Hughes, Jack O’Connor, Rick Fraser, Rod Hooper, Paul Veitch, Jonathon Truesdale, Liam O’Connor, Logan Clark, and Joseph van der Pennen. Great effort from the team!

U5 Triples Play-Offs

Saturday 17 December 2022 Division 1 for the U5 Triples Play-Offs will play out till the finals as displayed on the draw. Division 2 will play two rounds tomorrow and in the New Year play the final. Best of luck!

In the spirit of inclusiveness and support of the Bowls New Zealand‘s Summerset Open Disability Nationals, Bowls Canterbury hosted a “Have a Go” similar event at the weekend. Fourteen folks came along, many with other family members, and a great deal of FUN was enjoyed by all. The music was playing, the sausage sizzle was fired up and everyone went away with a small prize. The smiles and laughter added to the glorious sunny day. The best outcome of the day was that everyone was asking to do it again! The quote of the day came from the Nana of a 15-year-old young fellow – “ how did you get ………… to smile”. After discussions with greenkeepers we have decided it is in the best interest of health and safety as the forecast is not looking likely to improve until this evening. Rapanui Bowls Tournament – Club Redcliffs

Thank you Club Redcliffs for your fantastic help and support in creating Bowls opportunities for our youth. With the assistance of Erica from Bowls Canterbury, Club Redcliffs conducted a comprehensive Rangatahi Bowls Programme. The programme ran from September to November this year with approximately 200 years 5-8 pupils from Redcliffs School and Mt Pleasant School coming down to the club to experience bowling. After school on Wednesdays 9 and 16 November, the club organised a Bowls3x4 tournament with 16 teams each day, followed by a prize giving and sausage sizzle on the final day. Open Disability Pairs Tournament

Bowls New Zealand has established an Open Disability category which is being played at the same time at the Somerset National Singles and Pairs. Bowls Canterbury supports this initiative and is holding an Open Disability Pairs Bowls Tournament. following the new regulations to be held on Sunday 4 December at the Centre Green. We welcomeanyone with a disability that affects their bowling with the opportunity to enter. Under Bowls Zealand eligibility regulations, any individual who has any of the following can enter the Open Disability events. There are no age or gender restrictions. Worthy Winner Bowls the Field in the Living House Burnside Under 26 Singles 2022

After 140 games, played over three days, (7-9 October), Cambridge Central’s 25 year old Taylor Horn emerged from the field as a very worthy and second time winner of the Living House Burnside under 26 Singles. The Finalists; Seamus Curtin (Stokes Valley), and Taylor Horn (Cambridge Central) with Tayla Bruce (Tournament Director and 2015 winner) Horn’s opponent in the 2022 final was Stokes Valley’s and New Zealand Blackjack, Seamus Curtin, who was also seeking his second victory in this event. The pair traded singles in the first six ends but Horn went on a golden run to score 12 answered points over the next six ends. Living House Burnside Under 26 Singles – Showcasing Youth Bowls in 2022

The showcase event of youth bowls in New Zealand is the Living House Burnside Under 26 Singles tournament. Thirty-two players aged between 13 and 25 will compete for the title at the Burnside Bowling Club on Avonhead Road, Christchurch, from Friday, 7 October to Sunday, 9 October. The field will be drawn into four sections, with each player having seven section games. The top two players in each section are then placed in Division 1, the next two in Division 2, and so on for Divisions 3 and 4. Tayla & Katelyn Bring Home the Bronze!

Canterbury legends Tayla Bruce (Burnside Bowling Club) and Katelyn Inch (Canterbury 2017, Oxford) have done us proud at the 2022 Commonwealth Games! Tayla will be packing two bronze medals in to her luggage from her efforts in the Women’s Fours and Triples. Katelyn’s success was found in the Women’s pairs with Selina Goddard. Katelyn also qualified for knockout play in the Women’s singles which was a highly commendable effort! We are so proud of you both and look forward to celebrating further when you touch down on home soil!

A massive shout out to our Canterbury legend Tayla Bruce! How good was it seeing this group of awesome ladies win a bronze medal in the women’s fours The New Zealand squad of Selina Goddard, Nicole Toomey, Tayla Bruce and Val Smith beat Fiji 17-6 in the bronze medal match After going behind by 4 early on, they pulled it back to 7-6 and then reeled out 10 straight ends to take a deserved spot up on the podium Awesome work ladies, we are so proud Still a few medal opportunities for New Zealand coming up in Lawn Bowls. Results updated at the end of each round Champion of Champions Finals Weekend is to be held on Saturday 2nd and Sunday 3rd April at Morrison Ave Bowling Club. View the programme for the weekend below – please note this is subject to change. (UPDATED 1:48PM 28th March) Official practice times at Morrison Ave are 4:30pm – 7:00pm on Thursday 31st and Friday 1st. There will be food available at Morrison Ave all day on both days.
