Well done to our Canterbury development teams over the weekend, who were hosted by the West Coast Centre for Zone 5 Tournament in Greymouth. The development men’s team managed to come away with a win overall, congratulations for defeating the title! They had some challenging games but played exceptionally well. The women’s team finished runners up with a very close end result, only 2 points off Nelson. A great effort to our women’s team for putting up a fight right to the end.

South Island Secondary School Mixed Pairs Bowls Tournament

We have a new competition for our rangatahi bowlers! Running in summer tournament week this year, we have the South Island Secondary School mixed pairs tournament. Across Tuesday 19 and Wednesday 20 March, secondary school students will compete in a fun bowls tournament with shortened games. Office and Shop Holiday Hours

It’s almost time to put our feet up for the year! Our office and shop will be closing this Friday at 4pm. Meg and Lorraine will still be doing a bit of work from home next week to wrap up the pre-Christmas playoffs and finals. From us here at Bowls Canterbury we wish you all a safe and happy holiday season. Enjoy the Bowls New Zealand Nationals in our back yard in January – we’ll be back on deck from the 11th!

Office Update

The Bowls Canterbury office and green are closed today Thursday 30 November due to Lorraine still getting over the flu, Meg being away on leave and Erica has covid. The centre and green will be open tomorrow Friday 1 December at 9am.

Bowls Canterbury Green and Shop Closed

The Bowls Canterbury Centre green and shop will be closed tomorrow Wednesday 29 November. There is a promotional shoot that will be using the green for the majority of the day. Thank you for your understanding.

New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowling Association “have a go” events

New Zealand Blind Lawn Bowling Association (NZBLBA) is hosting ‘Have a Go’ lawn bowls events in Dunedin, Christchurch, and Nelson. There will be three events hosted in each city.  These events will be targeting females with any disability to explore the sport of lawn bowls, have fun, and make connections with others within and outside their community. There will be supportive volunteers helping participants and coaching them through the basics of this wonderful sport.  The dates, times, and venues for the Dunedin and Christchurch events are listed below.  Each venue is very accessible for those with disabilities and is held at a welcoming club with great facilities.  It is recommended that participants wear comfortable clothes with flat soled shoes.  They … Read More

Bowls Wellington Kittyhawk National U21 Singles

Calling all U21 bowlers! Bowls Wellington is bringing back one of the biggest event in bowls history for rangatahi bowls! Kittyhawk National Under 21 Singles are being held in Wellington 20-22 January 2024! Many stars of our sport have won this event including Jamie Hill, Raika Gregory, Shannon McIlroy, Kirsten Griffen and Selina Goddard to name but a few. Coaching Conference 2023

Earlier in October, Graeme Rees ran a Coaching Conference in Christchurch where a range of guest speakers shared their coaching and sporting knowledge and experiences. Coaches travelled from all over New Zealand to attend the conference and we were lucky to have a coach from Australia attend and shared their expertise. A massive thank you to Graeme Rees for such a successful weekend. It was great to get a range of coaches together to share ideas and expand each others knowledge. Results – Living House Burnside Under 26 Singles

Thanks to Burnside’s Ken Wilson-Pyne for the write up. After three days of varied spring weather and 140 games, a very worthy winner took home the silverware in the 2023 Living House Burnside Under 26 Singles, lawn bowls tournament. The field of 32 young bowlers was drawn into four sections of eight players who each then played theother seven in their section. The top two in each section won their place in Division 1 where theycompeted for overall first prize and the trophy.
